Meredith Axelrod "ragtime goddess"
Meredith Axelrod is available for 2019 festival shows. Meredith’s music is for people who do not follow the latest folk pop music trends. Her show is the music from the 1800’s to the 1930’s; American blues, folk, hillbilly, pop and jazz songs.
Meredith Axelrod will sing the sweetest melodies of yesteryear and transport you musically to 1928 via all your old favorite songs. She plays various string instruments and she learns all her music from sheet music and recordings that were done in the time that the music was new.
Jay Hinman creates a mostly-rock fanzine called Dynamite Hemorrhage, and in the latest issue he did an interview with a guy named Nick Schultz, who used to run a weirdo experimental label in the 90's called Majora. Jay asked him at the end of the interview if he was still into music, and here's what he said:
Meredith has performed solo shows at the Winnipeg Folk Festival in 2016, The Brooklyn Folk festival in 2017. Recently, she was at the Eureka Springs Folk festival in Eureka Springs, AR and the Maypole festival in Chicago, IL. She has performed in duo shows with Blind Boy Paxton at the Calgary Folk Festival in 2017, with Jim Kweskin at the Vancouver Folk and Music Festival and the Brooklyn Folk Festival. Meredith will frequently accompany Frank Fairfield in duo and band shows.

"Part of the allure of old-time music, indeed any music throughout the history of recorded music, is hearing the original recordings as played and sung by the original performers in their heyday, loving what they’re doing and doing it because it means something to them in that moment, never because of nostalgia, and Meredith brings the same unbridled passion, earnest devotion and candid vitality to all of her music; she has found possibility and joy in the treasures of cultural folklore."
